If it feels like fire dining is everywhere right now, there’s a good reason for that. From open-air kitchens in the Mediterranean to long-table feasts in California Wine Country, boujee retreats in Byron and the Yarra, our algorithm has been dishing up bespoke smoke, coal and long-table feasts on repeat for quite some time now - and honestly, we’ve been (patiently) waiting for something like this to land a little closer to home.

And so when it does, it’s firmly on the list.

This isn’t backyard BBQ.

Inspired by the likes of Argentinian asado and Patagonian open-fire cooking (there’s a reason Argentina is known for its beef) - but reimagined and refined - bringing restaurant-level cooking out into the open, where the flames, smoke and coals can deepen flavour, build char, and draw out something far more complex than you’d get any other way.

The upcoming Fire & Feast at Bunnyconnellen is exactly that - elemental, but refined. An immersive fire-dining experience built around flame, seasonality and a shared table, led by Chef Jerome Dalton (Dalton Catering) and his Fire Dome. It’s where this style of dining really comes into its own.

The dinner leans into a three-course, shared-table experience. A series of canapés leads into a generous fire-cooked feast, built around local, seasonal produce and anchored by Mort & Co beef, then dessert - each course paired with wines from independent French Champagne house Laurent-Perrier.

Set within The Shed, with sweeping views across the valley, an afternoon of live music, it’s the kind of autumn afternoon worth clearing the schedule for (with return transfers from Toowoomba available for those not looking to drive, or the option to park on site).

Great food isn’t just about its taste; it’s also theatre. Meals that pull you into an experience, that bring a connection to the food you are eating and the people you’re eating it with - those are the meals that stick with you.
