The Field Guide's Summer newspaper is out now

Our tenth edition – just in time for this sunny, warm summer – is out now.

Published 08 December 2023

“There’s a reason why Bryan Adams & Louis Armstrong sang songs about it, or why Shakespeare compared young lovers to it…Summertime is something else. In fact, Summer in Toowoomba is my favourite time of the year. I know, we’re supposed to say Spring. And while Springtime in Toowoomba is magical, Summer is glorious!”

With the season well and truly in full swing, and the tiniest of delays at the printers, the tenth edition of our street newspaper is out in local shops and cafés, and it’s an ode to Summer!

You’ll find stories about family and community, captured beautifully by photgrapher Kylee Hewitt; and advice on how to gamify your life and start your new year strong. There’s articles about the super-power of art and a (very-tasty) tour of Rosalie House’s Cellar Door, and Bone Idol Bar. We walk through a house full of breathtaking art, and interview Darling Downs Zoo owner Stephanie Robinson about what it’s a day in the life of a Zoopkeerer. There’s a nostalgic summer recipe, and a look back over our previous nine editions (and so much more!)

As always, we’re so thankful to you our readers, or the encouragement, the support, the hi-fives (literal and digital) - whose stories we get the joy of hearing and telling and who make this region the special place it is.

And of course, a HUGE Thank you to our advertisers – Preston Peak, Walton Stores, Hot Property, Toowoomba Regional Art Galleries, The Empire, Highlands College, Cara-Ann Simpson, and Hey Marketing and Hot Property – who’s support has enabled us to pull together this jam-packed larger-than-normal 36 pages of local journalism and photography.

We hope you love it, as much as we do.
