There aren't many places where you can watch live jazz inside the hangar of a 150-year-old homestead on a winter Sunday afternoon, fewer still where the Darling Downs stretches out around you and the deep tones of a saxophone drift out of the hangar door.

Music in the Hangar at Jimbour House on Sunday 7 June is that kind of afternoon. One of Queensland's most significant historic homesteads, Jimbour has been standing since the 1870s - and if you've been lucky enough to catch Opera at Jimbour in previous years, you'll already know what live music here can feel like. With Opera at Jimbour not running in 2026, this is your best chance to experience it this year.

The Stephen Henry Quartet have been one of the most beloved acts on the Darling Downs for close to a decade. Saxophonist Stephen Henry leads a tight, joyful group playing a mix of jazz and contemporary - the kind of band that works for a good Sunday afternoon whether or not you'd call yourself a connoisseur.

Pack a picnic or pick up food from cheese, wine and coffee vendors on site. There's also a multi-draw raffle on the day, so bring some cash along.
