Downlands Art Exhibition opening as part of Carnival program
The renowned annual exhibition will feature 1,000 works by hundreds of artists, both Australian and international.

The RME Downlands Art Exhibition is back for 2026 drawing artists from across the country and around the world, with over 800 works from more than 200 artists on display, spanning contemporary and traditional pieces at every price point.
This year's feature artist is Chris Huber, one of Australia's most celebrated landscape painters. Her richly layered work draws on a lifetime of travel, from the frescoed walls of Italy and the hilltop farmhouses of Tuscany to the fishing villages of Liguria, filtered through the wide open light of the Australian bush. Alongside her traditional painting practice, Huber also creates contemporary three dimensional collage works using tile, metal, stone and specialised compounds, and she's an exhibiting member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists.
The Gala Opening kicks off proceedings on Friday, 18 September, 7.00 pm – 10.00 pm, when the exhibition is unveiled, and the best pieces tend to disappear fast. Tickets ($90) include finger food and a drinks package, plus free entry across the exhibition's full run.
The exhibition proper is open daily from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm, Saturday 19 through to Wednesday 23 September 2026. General admission at the door is $5 for adults, $4 for concession holders, and free for school-aged students. Tea and coffee are available in the adjacent café.
