The Valentine's Day Round-Up You Didn't Ask For
All our local events in one handy place
Valentine’s Day means plenty to some people, and nothing to others.
But you may as well have a good night, right? – whether you’re up for a romantic dinner for two, a fun night for one, or a ‘we may as well do something’ kind of evening. there’s something for you to do.
Here’s our round-up of Valentine’s Day events so you can start your planning.
degustation dinner at zev’s
Look, this isn’t a ground-breaking suggestion, we know. But there’s a reason Zev’s books out every year – it’s freaking good there. This year Zev’s is offering a five-course tasting menu with paired wines. At time of writing there is only one table left, but there’s no harm in calling to put your name on the waiting list! At least you tried, right?
romantic dinner at Rosalie House cellar door
Rosalie House is offering two seatings, a sunset one at 5pm and another at 7pm. Enjoy a candlelit dinner under the stars with roses, a sharing menu and a drink on arrival. Blindfolded dessert optional (not joking).
romantic dinner at George Banks
George Banks is offering a three-course menu, a drink on arrival and an evening spent looking at that view (or each other – whatever). Every lady will be given a rose, and the mellow acoustic sounds of local musician Kent Tonschek will be sure to set the mood.
romantic dinner at Preston Peak
Preston Peak is offering a four-course degustation with matched wines. We’re just saying that if you got married here, there’s basically no other option you should consider.
romantic dinner at jondaryan woolshed
Not to be outdone, in addition to the flowers and dinner, Jondaryan Woolshed is offering a $500 gift certificate to any couples who get engaged here on the night.
laughing your face off at Avenue Q
Man, OK. Enough of all that.
How about the hilarious, adults-only Avenue Q? Incidentally on Valentine’s Day, this live theatre show is inspired by the puppet shows you loved as a kid – but now very much more grown-up. It’s won several Tony Awards and is in town for just two weeks at USQ’s Artsworx theatre.
Dan Murphy’s Members COcktail Night
If you happen to be a Dan Murphy’s member (or want to join – it’s free), the Wilsonton store is hosting a members-only cocktail night. For just $10 and an hour of your evening, you’ll be whipping up Southsides in no time (please invite us when you do).
must love dogs singles night
Is loving dogs a prerequisite for your relationship? Then Bar Wunder is hosting just the party for you. Bring your dog, and meet other singles who love dogs just as much as you. Worst case scenario your pup will make new friends.
catch a movie at the strand cinemas
This is a bit more choose your own adventure, but we’d recommend starting with a whisky at Fitzy’s before catching a movie. We’re personally looking forward to At Eternity’s Gate, which stars Willem Dafoe as Vincent Van Gogh and it therefore going to be a crowdpleaser, but you may be more of a On the Basis of Sex person (which is much less saucy than it sounds). What Men Want also sounds hilarious, and a good counterpoint to how serious we’re all supposed to take this Valentine’s Day thing.
Start-Up Culture at tinker
Look, maybe you’re an entrepreneurial couple…? Anyway, this monthly relaxed networking night happens to fall on Valentine’s Day, and is a showcase of local business wizards. February’s speaker is Tammie Pike of Toowoomba Mumpreneurs and Earth Radiance. Everyone receives a loot bag, and business cards are encouraged. You can go to dinner any night, right?
