Conquer the School Holidays this Winter

get by with a little help from your friends at THE FIELD GUIDE

We’ve rounded up all the workshops, shows, exhibitions and freebies we could find!

School holidays are great and all, but how are you supposed to get anything done?! Thankfully there’s plenty on, ranging from family film screenings to drop-them-and-go workshops.

Pull out their scarves and gloves, and send them off to the Winter Wonderland. With little buggies for inexperienced skaters as well as an ice slide for those less sure on their feet, it’s a great activity for kids of all ages. Finish by popping into the library next door for some new reads.

Visit Cobb + Co at their new Sciencentre. Let the kids explore the world of science through 15 interactive stations, including a flight test. Or check out their Makerspace for more hands-on activities.

If the kids really need to expend some energy, try laser tag and archery. Or drop them at the bowling alley for a few hours. Camp Cooby also offers a school holidays program full of rock-climbing, canoeing and high ropes. Or try a local hike.

The Empire Theatre is hosting Wolfgang’s Magical Musical Circus, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Cat in the Hat. And the Library is hosting special winter storytime sessions, as well as slime workshops, a meet and greet with the Snow Queen and Snow Princess, and a Narnia installation with scavenger hunts and lucky dips. There’s also an anime club!

Grand Central is always good for some school holiday activities. Check out their free ‘bubble bath’, take the kids to a pizza making workshop, or some picture book readings. We also probably don’t need to tell you that Toy Story 4 has been released.

Tinker always has an amazing line up of school holiday art classes, ranging from watercolour to textiles to acrylics. Other one-off events include the Danish Flower Cafe’s winter festival and Clifford Park’s Mad Hatter family day.

We’ve also got you covered if it rains.

If we’ve missed something, please let us know! And keep an eye on our calendar for updates.
