How to Celebrate Mother's Day This Sunday
spend some time showing mum a whole lot of love
Mother’s Day in Toowoomba is always a special time of year.
Thanks to the amazing schools, parks and cost of living in this city, Toowoomba is just teeming with Mums! It’s always been a beautiful place to spend a Sunday together, but this year will be made even easier thanks to the help of a few local businesses.
take her to breakfast
A long-standing Mother’s Day tradition is breakfast, and we’re spoilt for choices with Toowoomba’s café culture. Milk & Honey is honouring this ritual by giving all mums a free coffee with breakfast. Kingfisher Cafe is offering a full breakfast buffet with a complimentary glass of bubbles for Mum.
Or why not avoid the bustle of cafés, and pre-order a picnic box from Milk & Honey? Head to Queens Park with a blanket and a thermos to enjoy a laidback morning in the sunshine.
a shopping trip (aka last minute gift purchase)
After breakfast, head downtown for a spot of shopping. Maybe you didn’t remember a gift in advance, or maybe it’s just easier if Mum chooses her own.
There’s some amazing boutiques to choose from, for all different tastes and styles. Magnolia is a treasure trove filled with homewares, fashion and accessories. Belle Fleur is a must for anyone whose mother is as obsessed with William Morris as ours. Green Dandelion and Live Pure & Simple are great for eco-conscious mamas, while Bunker Records is a must for the musos. Bungalow & Basket is a beautiful shop for gifts, and has the bonus of being a café with homemade sweets. Harold’s is perfect for chic mamas who love a bit of monochrome and brass. The Book Tree has a gorgeous selection of coffee table books, as well as all the bestselling novels, while Thibault & Donaldson has more stunning homewares than you can shake a stick at. Fashionistas should head straight to Ivy Designer Collections or Florence & Marabel for beautiful clothes and accessories.
the gift of love
Treat Mum to some well-deserved down time with a two-in-one gift voucher from Profile Hair Design and Classic Beauty Therapy. The local salons have teamed up to make spoiling your mum easy – the voucher (worth $150) includes a luxurious facial as well as a hair wash, treatment and blowdry. Visit either Classic Beauty Therapy or Profile Hair Design to purchase.
Flowers are also always a good idea. We love The Flower Grocer for unique, one-off arrangements, and Ruby Lane Flower Co for her posies. Or arrange your own bouquet with these tips from The Little Flower Stall.
spend some quality time together
Why not lace up some walking shoes and set out on a hike together? Catch up as you get some fresh air and exercise. Or how about trying a new exercise class together, or even hiring a local tennis court for a game?
You could also get in the car and go for a drive up towards Crows Nest. Enjoy a glass of wine on the lawn at Bunnyconnellen, or try your luck for a table at Emeraude. You could also enjoy a drink or two together at one of the city’s best Sunday sessions, or pick up your own from Dan Murphy’s.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers in town, as well as our own who both sadly do not live in town. We also send copious amounts of love and support to anyone who does not celebrate this day, and for anyone hoping to celebrate it another year.
