Where Art Meets Design

Design isn't just about function; it's a form of art that weaves its way through our lives. Whether it's the sleek exterior of a modern building or the careful placement of a vintage vase, like a thoughtfully curated piece of art, every element of design carries the power to transform our surroundings and elevate our experiences. And while some may see a distinction between art and design, the truth is that they are intimately linked, two parts of a greater whole.

Tess Lawry, Michael Fleming and the experienced design team at Feather & Lawry Design understand this connection better than most. Through their work, they strive to blur the lines between art and design, recognizing that the two are mutually reinforcing. By embracing the creative possibilities of both, Feather & Lawry has created a portfolio of work that is as functional as it is beautiful, as efficient as it is inspiring (just see their latest Byron St. and Clayfield developments); engaging and collaborating with the client as a valued member of the creative process.

But Feather & Lawry's commitment to art goes beyond their architectural and interior design services. “Establishing a gallery at the front of our building to celebrate the huge talent of local & regional artists was a natural extension to what we do”, Tess explained. “After our building on Russell Street was damaged by flooding last year, we took the opportunity to completely transform the space, and we now have this striking architectural backdrop of lofty ceilings and natural light that provides the perfect gallery canvas”. From bold landscapes to intricate portraits, every piece on display is an opportunity to showcase the power of art to uplift and transform.

“There’s certainly this perception that art has to be prohibitively expensive” Gallery coordinator Michelle Poole explains, “we’re committed to making art accessible to all, with works ranging from the very affordable to high-end, and with exhibitions designed to showcase a wide range of styles and perspectives”.

Currently showcasing an exhibition by Stephen Baxter called "Reflect and Shine", a solo exhibition of new mixed media artworks and sculptures, the gallery has already announced two more public exhibitions for 2023; artists Michelle Kennedy in July and Vanessa Frommolt in August.

So whether you're exploring a stunning architectural marvel or admiring a carefully crafted piece of art, take a moment to appreciate the artistry that has gone into its creation. Because when art and design come together, they have the power to elevate our surroundings and inspire us to reach new heights.
