Spotlight | Luxe Platters by Ash
focusing on promoting local produce
Ashlee Hennig created her business to fit around her lifestyle.
Giving us serious #workgoals, the entrepreneur behind Luxe Platters by Ash has built a business that allows her the most possible quality time with her family.
We spoke to Ash about her ideal weekend, where she shops for local produce, and why she calls Toowoomba home.
Name: ashlee hennig
Occupation: caterer and owner of luxe platters by ash
Known For: beautiful cheese boards you’d love to take credit for…
Local since: forever!
First things first: why Toowoomba?
I’ve lived in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley growing up and moved up to live with my boyfriend, now husband at 17 years old. Both my parents families live in Toowoomba and my family moved up from the Lockyer Valley two years ago so there isn’t a chance of me moving away now!
what is Luxe Platters by Ash?
Through Luxe Platters by Ash, I credit beautiful platters and snack boxes for my clients. I always focus on good quality, local food. I’ve loved getting to know different vendors around town and exactly where the food on our platters come from.
Buying local and staying consistent is hard though as often it’s not the most convenient option, but it’s what sets us apart.
What have you learned about running a business in Toowoomba?
People loveeee small local businesses and will always try and support you over the big guy companies, which I love and was quite shocked by in my first year of business.
Toowoomba is unique because of how small it is in comparison to the coast line cities nearby and word travels really fast, which is really convenient if you’ve got a good product I have found!
What does an average day look like for you?
Honestly, the average day is fitting work in around my family. Anytime I’ve worked in my life it has always been to benefit our family life. To me, that means lots of quality time, so I’m usually up early making platters before my family wakes up, and then structuring deliveries around what we have planned as a family.
What does your ideal Toowoomba weekend look like?
It definitely includes a sleep in.
I love going to the Saturday morning markets at Cobb + Co then usually a family lunch with my side of the family. We love taking the dog for a walk to Ground Up Espresso Bar, probably a trip to Kmart and definitely a few trips to Bunnings for some small home improvement work and some plant shopping always slips in there somehow.
A few wines on our deck or down at the firepit for those cooler nights to wrap up the weekend with some friends never go astray. All tied in around platters being made!!
Only a Toowoomba local would know…
How exciting it is the bypass is open and be enjoying how quiet James Street is now!
