Awesome Things to Do This April
a monthly round-up so you can plan ahead
This is the second instalment of our monthly round-up series.
Pulled from our constantly updated events calendar as well as some of our personal recommendations, we hope this will encourage you to put some plans in place and support local events and businesses – and stop missing out! April is a beautiful time in Toowoomba, with plenty of long weekends to discover something new.
meet someone new
We often hear that Toowoomba is a hard city to ‘crack’ when you’re new to town. It feels like everyone already knows each other, and everyone already has their group of friends sorted. Well, we can personally attest that it’s just not true, having moved back to Toowoomba a couple of years ago. Here are our tips for meeting new people in this awesome city.
get ready for some long weekend camping
We’re not sure why Toowoomba people love camping in April – when it’s cold and most often raining – but we’ve run with it anyway. If you’re stocking up on supplies before you go, we created a list of the great local businesses you should visit. Whether it’s a new basket with all the trimmings, equipment to make ad hoc BBQs easier or some games to pass the time, there’s beautiful options all over town.
streets & lane festival + the toowoomba busking festival
On Easter Saturday, the annual Streets & Lanes Festival pops up all over the CBD with music, art, food and other celebrations of life. It’s a series of local organisations running their own events under the festival banner, so expect something for everyone.
And while you’re strolling around looking for the events, make sure you check out the Busking Festival, which runs alongside Streets & Lanes. We have amazing local talent, which you’ll be able to see for yourself.
commemorate anzac day
The Council always does a beautiful job of the annual Dawn Service and Wreath Laying. Rug up for a 4.30am start on Neil Street, with events running until late morning.
come and hang out with us!
This month we’re kicking off our first ever CreativeMornings/Toowoomba. We’d love to see you there on Friday, 12 April, so make sure you join the CreativeMornings newsletter to receive your registration link. And if we miss you in April, perhaps we’ll see you in May!
take the kids to the easter vintage festival
The Highfields Pioneer Village throws an amazing annual festival that celebrates days gone by. Experience rural life in the Australian Pioneer days – milk a cow, learn how to crack a whip or be a blacksmith. Enjoy billy tea and damper made on authentic camp ovens. It’s an affordable, entertaining weekend for all ages.
return to the titanic fundraising dinner
Lifeline is raising funds for drought-relief with this fun-filled evening of dinner and dancing. Relive the glamour of 1912, and dress up for the occasion.
